Theme based 20 Ganpati Home Decoration Ideas – Part 1
In a few days, we shall be celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi festival. The festival literally marks the beginning of many other festivals like Navratri and Deepawali in this part of the year. Therefore, Ganpati Puja is one of the most important festivals in the country. Not just in Maharashtra, where the festival is celebrated on a grand scale, but also in other cities of India, the festival is celebrated in a splendid manner.
Nowadays, every one looks for some ideas for theme based Ganpati decoration. Let us have a look at the Top Twenty Ganpati Decoration Ideas that you may try this year at your home. Ideas below will help you to get more ideas and come up with unique theme of your own.
1. Ganpati in a Coconut Shell Theme
One of the first things that come to our mind when we say Ganesha is the Coconut. Breaking a coconut is considered very auspicious for worshiping Ganpati. Therefore, one idea for decorating could be making Ganesha’s Idol sit inside a coconut shell that seems to have opened up. Making this coconut is easy if you have raw dust for cover. Look at the image below where Rahul Lawhare & Sachin Rannaware have created in their own ways.
You may make this as grand as you want and have Lord Ganesh sitting with plenty of fruits and other offerings laid out for his feast.
2. Ganpati in a Temple Theme
This would be a success if you could recreate the Holy city of Kedarnath, or Varnasi, or even Haridwar in this manner. The city could be made with eco friendly ways and you can get to paint bridges, snowy mountains, buildings, trees and even have Ganpati fondly embracing his father, Shiva.
Making this decoration theme on any scale would be time consuming and the work should at least begin one week or a fortnight before the actual day of Ganesh Chaturthi to enable the colors to dry up and complete on time.
3. Ganpati in Egypt – Country Based Theme
This idea has Ganpati Bappa sitting inside a temple made in the Sphinx style. There are motifs of Egyptian art and hieroglyphics can be painted on the walls. Similarly we can create themes based on countries or wonders of the world.
There can even be obelisks made out of hardboard that can also have spotlight or be made to resemble torch-stands. Making this kind of elaborate decoration with sand thrown across to give it authentic Egyptian desert look. These kinds of themes will surely win hearts.
4. School Based Ganpati Decoration Themes
We want Ganesha to bless us wherever we go. So, we are also eager to have him at our schools. He is known as the ultimate teacher and hence, it would be only logical if he is our teacher in school. To make this creative decoration, just have a big room like space, with a black board or a green board hung behind Ganesha. Then a few classroom benches and desks and the education is all set to begin. People having kids at home can go for such themes which will also educate their children where they are familiar with school environments.
5. Ganpati Village Decoration Themes
Making an elaborate village hut is indeed one of the best ways to have Ganpati Bappa. You can recreate the village hut with straw and have bamboo poles with grass on roof and create an environment of one has come to village of Ganpati Bappa. There are many ideas you can get from this to create your own village theme Ganpati decoration.
Making the roof of the hut is easy by tying the straws together and having straw mats as walls. You can even try doing some traditional mural art on the floor and on the walls. You shall try hanging lanterns or diyas to complete the village look and feel.
6. Kerala Themed Ganpati Decoration – Regional Theme
Ganesha is omni present and he is traveling to Kerala, the God’s Own Country. He is seen sitting on a traditional houseboat of Kerala.
You can try having the typical coconut palm trees painted or made with paper and fabric on the background. A Kathakali dancer idol here and a traditional Kerala lamp there, would give the feel of the verdant state of Kerala. Similarly you can create one of the many different states of India.
7. Ganesha in a Hilly Valley Decoration Theme – Hills & Valleys Theme
Ganesha is seen sitting in the river valley. There are high hills that can be made with eco friendly methods with mud and then have it shaped as mountains. The painting of the hills has to be given properly and then you can have waterfalls or rapids made around. You can have artificial waterfalls and rivers everywhere. Wild flowers and green grass mats thrown around to give it nice mossy flooring. Many different ways can be used to create such a theme.
8. Ganpati Nature Theme – Trees & Plants Based Theme
You can have Ganesha sitting in the forest once again with many trees and plants around. He is the deity who protects all – men, women, and even animals. So, he is seen with amidst green plants and ivy and flowers.
Ganpati can be seen being originated from under a tree on a raised platform and this can give the rustic feel of the place. Have small diyas and rangoli done on the platform where the deity is placed.
9. Royal Ganesha Theme
Ganpati Bappa is the King of our hearts and therefore, He has to live only in forts and palaces. Making a fortress or a palace can be done by painting or pasting on a hardboard wall. You can put up flags on top of each tower and there can even be a canon made out of plaster or hardboard. Similarly you can create any structure you like to make it look real.
You can have statues of Royal elephants and horses placed in front of the fortress. There can be several statues of soldiers guarding and common people in front who can be praying to Ganesha.
10. Glass Based Ganesh Themes
Ganesha can be made to sit in a palace made of glass and even of bottles. Make individual pillars by arranging bowls and glass bottles one on top of the other. A chandelier would make the entire palace glimmer. Ganesha idol could be a jeweled one and that would also shimmer in the light. Though it is very fragile to handle and make, but it would really look good compared to what Sandesh has done below.
